Mental Health in Sport
As a former competitive athlete at the provincial, regional, and national levels in both water and court sports, I bring both lived experience and clinical expertise to my work with athletes. I understand the culture, demands, and pressures of sport, and the importance of supporting mental health alongside performance. As a coach, I have witnessed firsthand the importance of supporting psychological wellbeing alongside physical performance. These dual perspectives shape how I work with athletes—supporting the whole person, not just outcomes or results.
For the past three years, I have served as the embedded counsellor with a university athletics program, dedicating three days per week to providing mental health counselling to varsity student-athletes navigating the demands of academics, sport, and other life stressors. I also support athletes outside of the university setting, as well as retired athletes, as they navigate sport and life transitions.
My approach prioritizes emotional safety, sustainability, and long-term wellbeing, while honouring the realities and demands of sport.
In addition to individual counselling, my work in mental health in sport includes group sessions, team workshops, and coach consultations.
